Today marks an exciting day for the GeoFORCE Alaska family: the first day of the fourth-year academy trip! For the fourth time, students flew in to Fairbanks from villages across the North Slope to start the trip at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Before we travel to the Lower 48 for some amazing hands-on geology lessons, students stay in campus dorms, meet their counselors, eat in the student commons, and learn from academic and admissions advisers. Today, Day One, is winding down with students meeting their first academic challenge: taking the pre-test to gauge the knowledge of the geology we will see on the upcoming trip across the Rocky Mountain region. Good luck students!

For our group, this is a bittersweet trip because it marks the conclusion of an amazing four year experience. We can’t wait to share it with you. Follow this blog over the next ten days to follow our journey with this phenomenal group of high school students.
